Cathay Partners with Kai Tak Sports Park as Founding Travel Partner

Entertainment

Cathay is making history once again, this time by becoming the exclusive Founding Travel Partner of Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP), a landmark that is set to redefine Hong Kong’s sports and entertainment landscape.

Announced in a special ceremony on February 24, the partnership brings together two icons — Cathay, a brand that has connected Hong Kong to the world for decades, and Kai Tak, a site steeped in history, now reborn as a world-class destination for global sporting and cultural events.

Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau reflected on the significance of returning to Kai Tak, where the airline’s story first took flight, and how this collaboration marks an evolution from an aviation leader to a premium travel lifestyle brand.

KTSP’s Chief Executive Officer John Sharkey echoed the excitement, noting that Kai Tak has always been a gateway between Hong Kong and the world, and through this partnership, it will once again become a vibrant meeting point for international talent and fans.

Local rugby players and coaches shared their personal experiences and hopes for Kai Tak Sports Park in a lively chitchat session.

Beyond the grand stadiums and event spaces, the partnership is also about creating meaningful experiences for the community, starting with the first-ever aviation-themed immersive experience in the Greater Bay Area.

Visitors will get to explore Cathay-branded West Bridge, an architectural homage to Hong Kong’s aviation legacy, seamlessly connecting the Sung Wong Toi MTR station with the heart of Kai Tak Stadium.

Adding to the nostalgia, the World Flyer exhibit will bring Kai Tak Airport’s legacy to life through a scaled-down representation of its most iconic elements, designed as a space for visitors to learn, connect, and relive memories of Hong Kong’s golden aviation era.

Cathay is also set to enhance the visitor experience at KTSP with engaging community projects, including the creatively inspired ‘Rong Rong Square’ and the experiential ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici,’ reinforcing the connection between sport, culture, and lifestyle.

The excitement doesn’t stop there — rugby fans can look forward to the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, which will make its KTSP debut from March 28 to 30, 2025, ushering in a new era for one of Hong Kong’s most celebrated sporting traditions.
