Everything Gasperini said about Lookman after wasteful display vs Venezia

Soccer

Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, shared his thoughts on Ademola Lookman’s performance following their draw against Venezia at the Gewiss Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian attacker, who had turned his coach’s criticism to success in Atalanta’s last clash with a brace, could not pick up from where he left off when they played host to Venezia.

With that, Lookman, endured a frustrating night as Atalanta were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw, having missed key chances that could have secured a vital win in their Serie A title pursuit.

The Super Eagles forward was involved in several dangerous attacks but failed to convert his opportunities, with his biggest miss coming in the 83rd minute when he fired over the bar from close range after Sead Kolasinac’s flicked header found him unmarked.

Despite Lookman’s wasteful display, Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini revealed the Nigerian’s importance to the team while acknowledging the side’s lack of precision in front of the goal.

“Lookman is and always remains our most lively player,” Gasperini said as cited by SportItalia. “He had multiple chances and found himself in dangerous positions several times, but unfortunately, we weren’t sharp enough to finish them off. Retegui also had opportunities, but at the moment, we are less precise.”

With Atalanta losing ground in the title race, Gasperini will be hoping Lookman regains his clinical edge in their upcoming fixtures.
