Real Sociedad eye Umar Sadiq’s return from Valencia as key to Luis Suárez transfer

Soccer

Umar Sadiq’s loan spell at Valencia has reignited interest in his future, with Real Sociedad considering welcoming the Nigerian striker this summer as part of a strategic transfer move, Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite sending him to Mestalla in January, La Real remain open to bringing Umar Sadiq back to Donostia, where he could play a crucial role in their plans to sign UD Almería’s prolific forward, Luis Suárez.

Before moving to Valencia, Sadiq’s time at Real Sociedad had been plagued by misfortune. After impressing at UD Almería, earning a move to La Real in 2022, a serious knee injury disrupted his momentum. Since then, he has struggled to rediscover his best form, leading to his temporary switch to Valencia.

At the Mestalla, however, signs of a revival are emerging. The 26-year-old has already netted twice—once in La Liga and once in the Copa del Rey—showing glimpses of the sharpness that once made him a feared striker.

Valencia are reportedly satisfied with his progress, and while they have yet to trigger a permanent transfer, they remain interested in keeping him beyond the summer. They could attempt to renegotiate his €10 million purchase clause or push for an extended loan, depending on his performances in the coming months.

However, Real Sociedad’s primary objective is not necessarily to reintegrate Sadiq into their squad but to use him as a bargaining chip in their pursuit of a proven goalscorer, according to Que. Their target? UD Almería’s Luis Suárez.

The Colombian forward has been in blistering form this season, scoring 20 goals in La Liga Hypermotion. With Almería unlikely to retain him, Real Sociedad see an opportunity to strike a deal—one that could involve sending Sadiq back to his former club as part of the negotiations.

Sadiq remains a fan favourite in Almería, and his inclusion in a swap deal could make the move financially viable for all parties.

Real Sociedad, keen to strengthen their attack alongside stars like Takefusa Kubo, Mikel Oyarzabal, and Brais Méndez, believe Suárez is the missing piece in their quest for Champions League football.

Umar Sadiq: Controversy in Valencia’s defeat to Atletico Madrid

While Sadiq’s future remains uncertain, his present at Valencia continues to be eventful.

Over the weekend, he was at the center of controversy as Valencia suffered a 3-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid.

Sadiq thought he had won a penalty in the second half when his header struck the hand of Atlético’s Javi Galán inside the box. However, the referee waved away Valencia’s appeals, much to the frustration of the home crowd.

Even Atletico boss Diego Simeone admitted Valencia were unlucky not to receive a spot-kick.

“It’s the same move as the European Championship,” Simeone told Diario AS, referencing the contentious handball decision in Spain’s win over Germany at Euro 2024.

“For me, it was a penalty. The ball hits him on his hand. That situation is hardly understandable. Hopefully, we can manage the same line in all the teams. Sometimes they whistle them, sometimes they don’t.”

Despite the debatable call, Atletico were dominant, sealing their win through goals from Julián Álvarez and Ángel Correa.

The defeat leaves Valencia hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, with a crucial away fixture against Osasuna next on their agenda.

For Sadiq, the coming months will be decisive—not only for his chances of staying at Valencia but also for his potential role in one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer deals.
