  • Good morning!

    Hello and good morning!

We saw another two transfer windows metaphorically “slam” shut last night as the Dutch and Portuguese leagues shut up shop for winter moves.

But there was till plenty of news to bring you from Tyrell Malacia’s switch to PSV and Spurs beating Arsenal to the signing of wonderkid Mason Melia.

While there is bound to be some more news, drama and gossip today too with the MLS, Australia, Turkey, Switzerland and Croatian transfer windows all still open.

  • Barca’s Gonzalez blunder

Cash-strapped Barcelona reportedly lost out on MILLIONS from Nico Gonzalez’s £50million Manchester City switch due to a contract blunder.

Before joining the Portuguese side in 2023, Gonzalez came through the ranks at Barcelona’s La Masia academy before being sold for £7million to Porto.

However, the Catalans made sure to include a clause that entitled them to 40 per cent of his next fee.

Despite that, ESPN claims Barcelona will now receive just 20 per cent of Gonzalez’s £50m.

That’s because before selling him to City, Porto snapped up half of Barcelona’s clause for only £2.5m.

It means instead of receiving £20m as part of Gonzalez’s move to City, Barca have banked just £10m.

Including Porto’s cheeky clause cash-in, it makes for a grand total of £12.5m — £7.5m less than the Spaniards were expecting to rake in.

  • Man City’s mega spending

Manchester City’s owners have dug deep into their pockets to fund a huge winter spending spree to try and re-track the champions’ off-the-rails season.

And some reports are claiming that City’s spending has almost eclipsed that of the rest of Premier League’s spending COMBINED.

According to the BBC, City splashed out £180m on the arrivals of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico Gonzalez.

While the rest of the league spent just £10m more than that for a combined £190m.

  • Jones backs Rashford

Phil Jones has backed Marcus Rashford to success at Aston Villa following his departure from Manchester United.

Speaking on the Football News Show, he said: “If they [Man Utd] really evaluate the situation, I think they’re disappointed in the performances, he’s not played a lot over the last 18 months, for one reason or another.

“He’s a Manchester United boy, he knows the club inside and out. He loves playing for the club, he’s made that known. It’s not happened for him over the last 18 months.

“There’s a kid there who has got unbelievable amounts of talent, I can only speak personally from when I played with him at United and at England. I think he is a fantastic player, who needs a bit of love, a bit of support.”

  • Utd confirm Malacia exit

Manchester United have confirmed the exit of Tyrell Malacia on loan to PSV.

As explained earlier, Malacia joins PSV on loan until the end of the season, with the Dutch club holding a buy-option on the full-back.

It’s thought the option is worth around £8.3m.

PSV are understood to be covering the entirety of Malacia’s salary.

  • More from Arteta

Arteta has admitted that he is “disappointed” with Arsenal’s transfer business.

We had a clear intention which is always when a window opens to explore the opportunities to improve our squad. With players with injuries, we’ve been impacted and we haven’t achieved it.

We are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that as well.

    Mikel Arteta

  • PSV agree Malacia deal

More details are emerging about Tyrell Malacia’s loan move to PSV Eindhoven.

The Manchester United full-back has reportedly sealed his loan switch to the Dutch giants.

While it’s claimed that PSV also have a buy-option included in the deal worth around £8.3m.

Should that clause be activated, then it’s reported that United will have a 30% sell-on clause for any future deal.

  • Arteta on striker issues

Mikel Arteta isn’t too worried about relying on Kai Havertz for the rest of the season after Arsenal failed to bring in any attacking reinforcements during the transfer window.

The Gunners boss has claimed his side must be flexible with their options for the remainder of the campaign, pointing to stars like Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling to step up.

We are going to have to be flexible in the front line, the ones we have we have to make sure they stay fit and are contributing, can play in that position.

Raheem (Sterling) has played in that position, Ethan (Nwaneri) I think can play in that position, (Gabriel) Martinelli, so lets see in relation to how everybody is in the moment, the opponent.

But at some point I think we will have to try something different.

    Mikel Arteta

  • Spurs announce Melia

Well we told you earlier that Spurs had agreed a deal to sign rising star Mason Melia, and now it’s official.

The Tottenham Academy have revealed that Melia will join the club next January on a deal that runs until 2031.

  • Malacia medical

We mentioned earlier that the Dutch transfer window remains open until 11pm tonight.

And it looks like there could be a major deal making it over the line.

According to the BBC, Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia is in Holland to complete a medical and push through a loan deal to PSV Eindhoven.

It’s claimed the deal could contain an option to buy.

  • EXCL: Spurs set to sign wonderkid

Tottenham are set to sign Irish wonderkid Mason Melia.

A deal worth £1.6million plus add-ons has been agree with St Patrick’s Athletic for the young striker.

Though due to Brexit rules, the 17-year-old cannot join the club until the first window after his 18th birthday.

It means he will officially join Spurs on January 1, 2026.

Melia is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters to come out of Ireland for some time.

Celtic were particularly keen on him, while Everton, Club Bruges and Eintracht Frankfurt are among the clubs to have shown recent interest in the striker.

But Melia is understood to have always had his heart set on Spurs, who are set to make him the first million-pound player to come out of Ireland.

The youngster netted six goals in 31 league appearances in 2024 for St Pat’s.

  • January’s biggest deals

  • Windows still open

So we know that the English transfer window slammed shut last night, but which other leagues could still snap up some talent?

Here’s a look at what windows remain open and how long they have left to find new recruits.

    Australia: Feb 12
    Netherlands: Feb 4 (tonight)
    Portugal: Feb 4 (tonight)
    Turkey: Feb 11
    Switzerland: Feb 17
    Croatia: Feb 17
    USA: April 23

Windows already shut include England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia.

  • Tel’s bumper loan deal

Most football fans would have assumed that Mathys Tel’s loan to Spurs was a pretty shrewd acquisition.

However, it turns out that the north London club have had to fork out some serious cash for just four months of football from the Frenchman.

While they won’t have the decisive say on activating his buy clause either.

Tel’s loan fee to Spurs has cost a whopping £8.3m.

On top of that, Tottenham will cover £1.7m of Tel’s wages – taking the total outlay to £10m when all is said and done.

With Spurs’ last game of the season expected to be the Premier League finale on May 25, Tel could have just three-and-a-half months of playing time, costing the club around £3m per month.

  • Davies pens new deal

Alphonso Davies has signed a new deal with Bayern Munich.

The Canadian full-back had been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid in the summer with his previous deal set to expire at the end of the season.

But Davies has tied down his long-term future to Bavaria by signing a contract until 2030.

  • Willian to make Prem return

It feels like the Premier League wouldn’t be the same without Willian, and it looks as though he feels the same.

The 36-year-old left Fulham in the summer for Olympiacos but saw his contract come to an end in January.

And now the veteran winger looks like he is returning to the Cottagers.

It’s reported that Willian is currently in London completing a medical ahead of another stint with Fulham.

  • Chelsea announce Amougou

    Another one over the line.

Chelsea have officially announced their £12.5m capture of Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou.

The 19-year-old Frenchman has penned a typically long eight-year deal with the Blues.

Chelsea plan to loan Amougou out next season to Strasbourg — the Ligue 1 club who, like Chelsea, are owned by the multi-club ownership group BlueCo.

  • Arsenal’s Havertz gamble

Arsenal have taken a huge risk by not bringing a new centre-forward in during the January transfer window.

The Gunners decided against breaking the bank for Ollie Watkins and also considered a move for Alvaro Morata.

Instead they have opted to move forward with all the pressure on Kai Havertz, who they will now have to hope goes the rest of the season without picking up an injury.

Havertz has missed just 16 days with injury since he arrived at Arsenal – a record Mikel Arteta will be hoping continues.

The German is the Gunners’ top scorer this season with nine goals in the Premier League.

  • Jorginho on the move?

And just like that there’s already some Premier League rumours swirling.

Arsenal had a poor January window, failing to bring in any reinforcements, and they could be about to lose another star.

According to The Mirror, Jorginho has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Brazilian club Flamengo at the end of the season.

The midfielder’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire in the summer, meaning he has been free to negotiate a move away since the start of January.

And it looks like his brief spell in north London is coming to an end.

  • Chilwell delighted to move

Ben Chilwell joined Crystal Palace on loan on deadline day.

He was one several Chelsea departures along with Axel Disasi, Joao Felix and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chilwell said following the switch: “I’m very excited to be here. Crystal Palace is a club that’s going in a great direction. You look at the last few months, with the results and how the team’s playing, and it was a no-brainer to make the decision to come here.”

  • Milan confirm Felix capture

    “Everything was positive from Harry.”
