Shauwn ‘Mam’Mkhize’ Mkhize is set to lose her team.

SHAUWN “Mam’Mkhize” Mkhize’s soccer club, Royal AM, is set to be sold to settle its debts with the taxman.

This follows the popular businesswoman and TV reality star’s current difficulties with the South African Revenue Service (Sars).

Her club, also known as Thwihli Thwahla and based in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, competes in the Betway Premiership.

It was one of the assets attached by Sars to recover the R40 million debt owed.

Mam’Mkhize’s problems started in 2024 after the KZN Local Division of the High Court granted a preservation order and a search-and-seizure warrant in the case involving the Commissioner of Sars versus Mam’Mkhize and others.

After issues began, her club was placed under curatorship.

A recent court ruling has mandated that the club be sold to pay Sars.

The club was unable to participate in its soccer matches, which led to the PSL suspending all its matches until further notice.

It’s unclear whether the buyer will be from KZN, allowing the team to remain in the province, or from another province.

Sars spokesman Siphithi Sibeko informed Daily Sun the curator is currently responsible for all actions concerning the club.

Sars will receive its money once the team is sold.

When asked to provide the curator’s contact details, Sibeko said he didn’t have them.

“When the curator gets appointed by the court, they’ll get a mandate to sell something from someone owing and pay someone who is owed.

“Sars only acts on the basis of what he gets given. The curator is independent, so Sars won’t be one selling the club. It’s the curator that does what he has to do empowered by the law. He knows, as the curator, about what to do to pay creditors,” he said.

Mam’Mkhize was unavailable for comment.

The PSL has not yet commented on its future action following the Royal AM FC controversy.
