bitcoins Possible-Kraken-Link-to-Satoshi-Nakamoto-Identified

Reading Time: 2 minutes

  • Recent on-chain evidence suggests that the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken may possess information regarding the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto
  • Arkham Intelligence has identified a Bitcoin wallet, allegedly linked to Satoshi Nakamoto, that has interacted with Kraken
  • These developments have reignited discussions about the elusive figure behind Bitcoin

Recent findings indicate that the OG crypto exchange Kraken might hold clues about the identity of Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence has reportedly traced a Bitcoin wallet, believed to be associated with Nakamoto, which has had transactions involving Kraken. This revelation has sparked renewed interest and debate within the cryptocurrency community regarding Nakamoto’s true identity, although the evidence is not conclusive.

Bitcoins 22,000 More Addresses Added to Satoshi’s Haul

Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence has been at the forefront of this discovery, posting this week on X that it had found more Bitcoin addresses connected to Satoshi Nakamoto, taking his suspected haul to nearly 1.1 million:

UPDATE: $100 BILLION IN SATOSHI NAKAMOTO’S HOLDINGS NOW ON ARKHAM

We’ve added an additional 22,000 Satoshi addresses with a total BTC balance of 1,096,354 to the Satoshi Nakamoto entity on Arkham.

As Arkham points out, the known Satoshi coins stem from a mining pattern referred to as the Patoshi Pattern, and feature the only known addresses from which Satoshi spent BTC from, which were few and far between. Satoshi amassed these addresses through his early mining in 2009 and 2010, where he was one of only a handful of miners.

Bitcoins Kraken Link Emerges

Arkham’s discovery was just one piece of the puzzle, however. X users and long-time Bitcoiner Conor (@jconorgrogan) did some investigation regarding the new addresses and found some intriguing links:

I went through Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallets; thread of new findings that I don’t think have been previously reported including:

-My best guess is that Satoshi was last active onchain in 2014
-He may have used a Canadian BTC exchange (!)
-Kraken may know the identity of Satoshi pic.twitter.com/ajD2A73fm8

— Conor (@jconorgrogan) February 5, 2025

Conor found that Satoshi’s last on-chain activity occurred in 2014, three years after he left the scene. Notably, one of Satoshi’s associated addresses, 1PYYj, received Bitcoin from Cavirtex, a Canadian exchange marking the first documented on-chain interaction between a Satoshi-linked wallet and a centralized exchange. Given that Kraken acquired Cavirtex in 2016, there remains the tansalizing prospect that Kraken possesses information regarding Satoshi’s identity, provided any relevant KYC data was retained.

Additionally, these Satoshi-linked addresses sent a total of 200 BTC to the Bitcoin faucet across two transactions, showing support for the Gavin Andresen-inspired mechanism.

Even if Kraken does know the identity of this user, there is no way it will ever be revealed, so Bitcoin’s biggest secret will remain just that, for now, at least.
