Should Paul Onuachu exit Southampton in summer despite newfound form?

Soccer

Paul Onuachu has recently found his form at Southampton delivering impressive performances under the guidance of Ivan Juric, Soccernet.ng reports.

The towering Nigerian striker has been a bright spark in an otherwise struggling Saints side, having contributed goals and assists despite their ongoing relegation battle.

However, there has been a growing interest from several clubs, including Trabzonspor, who have placed a priority on luring him back to Turkey following his successful stint at the club in the 2023-24 season campaign.

Onuachu’s Resurgence at Southampton

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles attacker struggled to make an impact in England after his move from Genk—where he was a prolific goal scorer.

However, recent weeks have seen him regain confidence, finding the back of the net twice and providing an assist in his last four appearances.

The Saints have pulled one back

These performances have earned him three starts under the former Torino FC manager, who has spotted him as a key player in his squad.

Southampton’s Uncertain Future

Despite Onuachu’s return to form, relegation-threatened Southampton sits at the last bottom of the Premier League standings.

If the Saints fail to secure top-flight status for next season, it could force the Nigeria international to reconsider his future.

Playing in the Championship might not match with his ambitions, especially with clubs from top European leagues reportedly monitoring his situation.

Should Onuachu Stay or Leave?

While Southampton’s struggles might suggest an exit is the best option, Onuachu’s recent form under Juric shows a potential to thrive if given more time.

If the Saints retain their Premier League status and continue to build around him, staying could allow him to cement himself as a key player in England.

However, if relegation becomes inevitable, a move would be the logical step to ensure he continues competing at the highest level.
