Galliford Try has been appointed to build a £63m residential scheme at RAF Digby in Lincolnshire.

The tier one contractor will build four new single living accommodation buildings for junior ranks, each standing at three storeys and containing 69 single ensuite bedrooms.

The blocks will also contain a kitchenette, drying rooms, laundry rooms and social spaces, while Galliford Try will also deliver car parking, street lighting and outdoor communal areas.

The scheme will feature solar panels, air source heat pumps, energy-efficient LED lighting and electric car charging points as part of the government’s push towards net zero.

The facility is being developed by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) for the RAF and construction is expected to start in March.

Galliford Try is part of a strategic alliance with Kier, Graham, Laing O’Rourke, Lendlease and Morgan Sindall within the DIO’s £5.1bn Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio programme.

In its most recent full-year group accounts, covering the period to 30 June 2023, Galliford Try said defence and custodial work accounted for 30 per cent (£685m) of its £2.25bn order book.

The firm was ranked 15th in the CN100 2024 table of top contractors with turnover of £1.39bn.

RAF Digby is a 171 hectare station near Scopwick and is the home of the Joint Service Signals Organisation and the RAF Aerial Erector School training facility, as well as two signals units.

Wing Commander Neil Hallett, station commander at RAF Digby, said: “This is an eagerly anticipated announcement welcomed by the service men and women stationed here.

“Having modern single living accommodation will significantly improve the lived experience and there is a buzz of excitement across the station following this contract award.”
