Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Tolkin, Adams, and more

Soccer

John Tolkin needed just three Bundesliga appearances to register his first goal contribution.

Tolkin started and assisted once as Holstein Kiel tied Bochum 2-2 on Sunday. The U.S. men’s national team left back delivered his best outing yet for his new club, teeing up David Zec for Kiel’s equalizer in the second half.

Not only did Tolkin add his name to the stat-sheet, but he also delivered a strong shift defensively. He won three duels, made eight clearances, and drew one foul from his left wing back position.

The 22-year-old now has back-to-back starts under his belt and will aim to keep his starting spot going forward. Holstein Kiel will next visit Eintracht Frankfurt on February 16.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso started but Real Betis lost at Celta Vigo.

In England, Tyler Adams helped Bournemouth advance in the FA Cup. Ethan Horvath also excelled in FA Cup play. Josh Sargent scored his fourth goal in the past two weeks.
