The University of Warwick is hunting for a main contractor to deliver its new business school.

The university is looking to appoint a construction firm to a two-stage design and build contract for a 28,000 square metre scheme at its campus in Coventry. The university aims to have the building open in 2029.

The business school will be the first building constructed as part the university’s new Social Sciences Quarter, which is set to include buildings up to seven storeys tall. It received outline planning permission in August.

The quarter will be located on a greenfield site by Westwood Heath Road and Gibbet Hill Road, to the north west of the university’s campus on the outskirts of Coventry.

A prior information notice (PIN) for the business school said it had been “designed by international architects HLA to respond to the department’s specific teaching needs and future growth aspirations”.

It added: “The scheme is being designed around the principals of wellbeing and sustainability, to achieve WELL platinum, EPC A rating and BREEAM Excellent to deliver outstanding levels of sustainability.”

The PIN did not disclose the potential construction cost of the new business school. Construction News approached the university for comment.

The University of Warwick said it will release a questionnaire in March, with invitations to tender issued in May and a contract awarded in August. The prior information notice can be viewed here.

In 2013 the university hired Bowmer & Kirkland for a £30m extension of its existing business school. This was completed in early 2014.

Plans for a further extension were approved in 2019 but never built.
