However, although the Seagulls might have come flying out of the traps following Fabian Hurtzler’s arrival last summer, Thursday’s guests have struggled to find any real stability over recent times. Despite getting the New Year underway with a 1-1 stalemate at home against Arsenal, Brighton are without a win from any of their previous eight consecutive Premier League appearances. Watching their European dreams take a major denton either side of November’s international break, the Seagulls have also shown some extended issues away from the Amex. In fact, the former St. Pauli boss has seen his squad muster just a single Premier League victory on their travels since way back on October 19th. Likewise, continuing on from last season, Hurtzler’s side have not recorded consecutive away victories across any competition over the past 12 months.

Although Southampton might have only appointed new boss Ivan Juric last month, the Saints are seeking what would be a famous miracle at St. Mary’s. While Thursday’s guests might have only made their Premier League return this season, they have continued to break a string of unwanted records. Sat rock-bottom of the table and coming under some serious scrutiny, the former Torino boss has also seen his squad put just six points on the board. With many around St. Mary’s appearing to have accepted their fate, Juric’s men also open the midweek fixtures sat 10 points adrift of Premier League safety. Getting the New Year underway with another nightmare performance as they fell to a 5-0 drumming at home against Brentford, Southampton have lost their previous three top-flight showdowns by an aggregate score of 8-1. Claiming just a single Premier League win so far this season, they also fell to a 3-0 drumming when they met Man United for their reverse showdown on September 14th.
