Time for France? Taiye Taiwo’s former club make loan move for Sevilla’s Iheanacho

Nine-time French Ligue 1 Champions, Olympique De Marseille, have made a move to sign Sevilla and Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Sevilla following his subpar performance since joining the Spanish side after the expiration of his contract with Leicester City.

Iheanacho penned a three-year deal with the seven-time UEFA Europa League winners but could be on his way out as he’s been awful in front of goal. To make things worse for the former Leicester City striker, Sevilla have signed Nigerian forward, Akor Adams, from HSC Montpellier.

As per Match Afrique, Taiye Taiwo’s former side, Olympique de Marseille, are in talks with Sevilla over a possible loan deal for Iheanacho, with Sevilla expecting the striker to leave before the winter transfer window slams shut.

Sevilla President, Víctor Orta, also confirmed the clubs are working to resolve Iheanacho’s future, making it increasingly likely he’ll exit the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

“There is one week left, and I think there are three offers. It’s a matter of the player choosing his best option for the next six months.

“We all expected a higher performance from him. That has nothing to do with his quality, and there is interest from other teams. I believe he wants to play more, and we’ll see what happens until Monday,” the 46-year-old said as previously reported by Soccernet.ng.

Marseille are currently second on the French Ligue 1 table, ten points behind league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.

While Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been impressive in the league, they don’t have a prolific striker, and Iheanacho could fill that void as they push up for European spots next season.

A move abroad is Iheanacho’s best bet, but a move to France might be harder as he’ll have to adapt to a new environment, the same issue he struggled with when he moved to Seville.
