“Unfinished business” – Dessers to stay put at Rangers following positive run of form

Soccer

Rangers and Super Eagles, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, isn’t ready to quit the Scottish capital despite transfer links suggesting a move abroad, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old forward fell down the Gers’ pecking order around November, and became third-choice in attack, with Philippe Clement preferring Hamza Igamane and the Brazilian Danilo.

As a result, Dessers was linked with a move away from the Scottish record champions, as he wants to play as many games as possible and compete for trophies. He previously admitted he could return to the Dutch Eredivisie.

However, the Nigerian has done well to turn his career at Ibrox around. In the last two weeks, Dessers has scored six goals in Rangers’ last four games, and has shunned exit talks, revealing he has unfinished business at Hampden Park.

“There’s been no talks at all. I try to focus on football and the things that are happening on the pitch. Those are the things that I can control and like Sunday, I’m just happy to be out there with the guys and fight for the points and be important. That’s what I want.

“There’s a lot of unfinished business at Rangers for me. That’s also why I kept pushing in the last weeks, in the gym, in training, in the minutes that you get, that’s because of that,” the former Cremonese striker said in quotes revealed by The Scottish Sun.

Prior to the Manchester United game where Dessers beat Altay Bayindir to put Rangers level at Old Trafford, albeit for a few minutes, the Super Eagles striker was booed in his side’s clash against Aberdeen, and it didn’t go down well with him.

“Yeah, that’s not easy. That’s quite hard to take, but on the other hand, I’ve had a lot of positive interaction as well with fans around the stadium in the city and I try to take that to heart, and when I get out there, I just want to fight with my teammates who I see every day, who respect me, who know the effort I put in in the training ground and then to win like this. That just makes me very happy, the Belgium-born Nigerian added.

Dessers has now scored 18 goals and provided five assists in 35 games for Rangers this season. Last term, he scored 22 goals and provided nine assists across all competitions.
