Official: Spanish side Osasuna sign young Nigerian striker from Eldense

Soccer

Spanish club CA Osasuna have signed young Nigerian striker Sixtus Ogbuehi on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent Soccernet.ng reports.

Ogbuehi, who was called up to Nigeria’s U23 team in 2023, will initially team up with Osasuna Promesas, the reserve team of La Liga club CA Osasuna, featuring in the Primera Federación.

The move offers the 21-year-old a chance to reignite his career after a challenging spell at Club Deportivo Eldense in Spain’s La Liga Hypermotion.

Ogbuehi, who began his career at Campos FC of Owerri in Nigeria, has been on an upward trajectory since making his mark in the Nigerian National League, where he scored nine goals in 16 appearances during the 2021/22 season.

His performances caught the attention of European scouts, earning him moves to Spanish sides Moralo and later Ceuta B. Last season, he demonstrated his goalscoring knowhow with 18 goals, split between Moralo and Ceuta B, in the Spanish Fifth Division.

This prolific form secured Ogbuehi a move to Eldense in the Second Division, a leap of three divisions. However, opportunities were limited for the towering 192-centimeter forward, who managed only five league appearances and one Copa del Rey outing this season.

Osasuna Promesas, who currently compete in Primera Federación – Group 2, are looking to bolster their attack in the second half of the season. Ogbuehi is expected to bring his physical presence and goal-scoring instincts to head coach Santi Castillejo’s team as they aim to climb the table.

The Pamplona-based club, sitting 11th with 25 points, announced the signing on their official website, emphasising the voluntary purchase clause included in the deal.

Should Ogbuehi impress during his loan spell, Osasuna have the option to secure the striker’s rights permanently.
