Wendy Williams Declared ‘Permanently Incapacitated’ Due to Dementia in Court Documents

NEW YORK, USA – Former daytime talk show icon Wendy Williams has been declared “permanently incapacitated” due to early-onset dementia, according to court filings by her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.

The revelation sheds light on the tragic extent of Williams’ health struggles, leaving fans heartbroken and reigniting legal battles surrounding her life and legacy.

In the filing, Morrissey’s legal team described Williams, 60, as “an acclaimed entertainer who, tragically, has been afflicted by early-onset dementia and, as a result, has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”

The admission comes as Morrissey battles Lifetime over the controversial documentary Where is Wendy Williams?, which explores the star’s decline.

The court documents also revealed that Wendy was placed under guardianship in March 2022 after her bank, Wells Fargo, petitioned for intervention, citing concerns over “undue influence, dementia, and financial exploitation.”

Sources disclosed that Williams was first diagnosed with alcohol-related brain damage during a 2019 rehab stay in Delray Beach, Florida.

A neurologist informed her and her family that her years of alcohol abuse had caused permanent damage to her brain.

This diagnosis was later updated to include frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, her team confirmed publicly.

These conditions, along with Williams’ long-documented battles with Graves’ disease and lymphedema, have contributed to her absence from public life and the final season of The Wendy Williams Show.

Legal Battles Surrounding Guardianship

Wendy’s guardianship has been a point of contention since its initiation.

Morrissey’s legal team has requested that portions of the case involving Williams’ “health, familial relationships, and finances” remain sealed to protect her privacy.

Meanwhile, Morrissey has also filed lawsuits against Lifetime and associated production companies over the documentary, which she attempted to block with a restraining order earlier this year.

The request was denied on First Amendment grounds, allowing Lifetime to air the documentary.

The lawsuit has since escalated, with defendants filing countersuits against Morrissey.

Fans and Family React

The revelation of Williams’ cognitive decline has devastated her loyal fan base, many of whom have long hoped for her return to television.

“As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles,” her team said in a statement.

“The decision to share this news was difficult but made to advocate for understanding and compassion.”

Wendy Williams, once hailed as the “Queen of Daytime TV,” built an empire with her candid and often controversial style.

Her absence from her final season and her ongoing legal and health battles have marked a poignant and complex chapter in her life.

As her guardianship proceedings continue, the focus remains on securing her medical care and protecting her legacy, even as questions linger over the handling of her financial and personal affairs.

Fans and advocates alike hope for clarity and respect for the trailblazing star who once captivated millions.
