Trabzonspor to reopen Paul Onuachu’s case file

Soccer

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor are set to resume their pursuit of Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu this January, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onuachu’s future has been in the balance in the past year. The Super Eagles star joined Southampton from Genk two seasons ago, but he failed to make a mark due to managerial preferences.

Then last season, he move to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan to get more playing time. In Turkey, he was very impressive, as he registered 17 goals and four assists in 25 appearances.

Due to his impressive performances, there were speculations that Trabzonspor were looking to acquire his services permanently. However, they failed to agree on a fee with Southampton, ensuring that he remained in Hampshire.

This season has been topsy-turvy for Onuachu, as he struggled to get minutes at Southampton until December. Since coach Ivan Juric replaced Russell Martin at the helm of affairs at the St. Mary’s, Onuachu’s minutes have increased significantly.

However, there are still talks that the 30-year-old star could leave Southampton. This is as The Saints Centre have reported that Trabzonspor are set to reopen talks with Southampton for Onuachu’s services this January.

The Saints would likely be demanding for a fee in the excess of €12 million for an outright sale. So it is expected that they will try to sign him on loan.

However, it seems Juric fancies the Nigerian. Hence, it may be a bit difficult to get him to move to Trabzonspor if the coach wants him to stay at the club.
