In addition to Spotify Wrapped, there’s Apple Music Replay, Amazon Music’s Best of 2024, JioSaavn Replay and even Tinder’s Year in Swipe
As 2024 winds down, more music trends in the year are being shared by music platforms (and even dating app Tinder). Beyond Spotify Wrapped, here’s what India has been listening to, from top-streamed artists and most-streamed songs.
Apple Music Replay
Although not one to reveal too much data, this year, Apple Music Replay allowed artists and listeners to share specific details like total minutes in 2024. Going by their Tops Songs of 2024: India playlist, it was a familiar name that came up at the Number One spot – Vishal Mishra and lyricist Raj Shekhar’s “Pehle Bhi Main” from the soundtrack to drama film Animal (2023). Indie singer-songwriter Anuv Jain’s “Husn” and Karan Aujla and Ikky’s “Softly” (both from 2023) took second and third place, respectively.
Artists like Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Aujla, Pritam, AP Dhillon and Shubh had several songs in the top 100. Globally, Hanumankind and Kalmi’s “Big Dawgs” took the 39th spot on the Top 100 2024: Shazam playlist, dedicated to the most popular songs of the year looked up on Shazam.
Amazon Music Best of 2024
The broad headline with Amazon Music’s Best of 2024 Rewind roundup was Karan Aujla’s “Tauba Tauba” from the movie Bad Newz becoming the most-played song of the year in India. “Sajni” from Laapataa Ladies by Ram Sampath, Arijit Singh & Prashant Pandey is the most-streamed Hindi song.
Diljit Dosanjh is the top Punjabi Artist this year and Hanumankind ranks as top Indian Hip Hop Artist of 2024 on the platform. Best known for their film songs, artists like Sachin-Jigar, Shilpa Rao, Vishal Mishra, Arijit Singh and Anirudh Ravichander emerged as the highest-streamed artists this year.
Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” made her the top international song and artist of 2024 on Amazon Music. Elsewhere, Anuv Jain’s song “Jo Tum Mere Ho” was the most requested song on Alexa on Amazon Music for 2024 and Akshath Acharya’s soothing viral hit song “Nadaaniyan” took him to the top of Artists of Indian Indie.
JioSaavn Replay
Reporting a total of 100 million of monthly active users, there were few surprises in JioSaavn’s yearly roundup of streaming trends. Like on Spotify and Apple Music, Vishal Mishra and Raj Shekhar’s “Pehle Bhi Main” from Animal was the most streamed song on JioSaavn as well.
Following in the chart were Jasleen Royal and Arijit Singh’s “Heeriye,” “Sajni” by Arijit Singh, Ram Sampath and lyricist Prashant Pandey from Laapataa Ladies; “O Maahi” by Arijit Singh from the movie Dunki. Stree 2 movie song “Aaj ki Raat” by Madhubanti took fifth place, followed by Diljit Dosanjh’s international crossover song “Hass Hass” with Sia and Greg Kurstin and Anuv Jain’s “Husn” and Badshah’s “Soulmate” featuring Arijit Singh.
The top five streamed artists on the platform included Arijit Singh, Alka Yagnik, Pritam Chakraborty, Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal. Hindi, Telugu and Punjabi emerged as top three languages across India on JioSaavn.
Tinder’s Year In Swipe Report
Turns out it’s not just music streaming platforms and social media that can indicate an artist’s popularity. Based on data from Tinder Bios, Descriptors, and Interests from Jan. 1 to Oct. 1, 2024, they announced the Top Indian Spotify Artists heard by those on the dating app. It’s topped by Anuv Jain, followed by Punjabi artists like Shubh, Karan Aujla with Ikky, Sidhu Moose Wala and AP Dhillon.
It’s a different story when it comes to the Top Spotify Songs, however, with the top five not including a single Indian artist. The Top Spotify Songs on Tinder in India include Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival” featuring Rich The Kid and Playboi Carti, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” and Sabinra Carpenter’s “Espresso.”
