Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders, 2024 NFL Week 18

The Dallas Cowboys are set to play their final game of the season on Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders, the third in a row in which the Cowboys will have known they are not playing postseason football by the time the game kicks off.

Washington, on the other hand, is officially headed to the playoffs for the first time in four years as they clinched it with their win last Sunday night. All that’s left to take care of in this contest is whether or not Washington will be the #6 seed (which they earn with a win) or #7 seed (which is theirs if they lose). Notably, if it is the latter they will visit the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round and set up an NFC East clash that is loser goes home, always a fun thing.

From the Cowboys perspective it may or may not be the last game where Mike McCarthy patrols the sidelines as the team’s head coach. Beyond that it is possible that it is the last one in which players like Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence are formally members of the roster, even if they are not playing. Needless to say the horizon of change is upon us for the Cowboys and it all officially begins in earnest when this game concludes.
