AS Roma and Lazio will lock horns with each other in Serie A next weekend. The Derby della Capitale between Claudio Ranieri’s side and Marco Baroni’s team will be held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm UK time next Sunday.

AS Roma

AS Roma are one of the biggest clubs in Italy. They always aspire to finish in the top four of the Serie A table and have the ambition to challenge for the Scudetto, but things are not going well for them right now.

Claudio Ranieri returned to Roma as the head coach in November 2024. I Giallorossi’s form has improved under the Italian tactician, but they are still far from where they would like to be. Roma are 10th in the Serie A table at the moment with 20 points from 18 matches. The Roman club are as many as 15 points behind city rivals Lazio, who are currently fourth in the standings.

Roma will head into the Derby della Capitale against Lazio on the back of a 1-1 draw with AC Milan away from home at San Siro in Serie A. It came after a 5-0 hammering of Parma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome which followed a 4-1 victory over Sampdoria in front of their fans in the Coppa Italia.

Team News:

AS Roma are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Lazio. Mile Svilar will be in goal for Claudio Ranieri’s side. Gianluca Mancini, Mats Hummels and Evan Ndicka will be the three defenders. Alexis Saelemaekers, Manu Kone, Leandro Paredes and Angelino will be the four central midfielders. Paulo Dybala and Stephan El Shaarawy will be the two playmakers. Artem Dovbyk will lead the line for Roma.

Lazio

Lazio are one of the biggest clubs in Italy who always aim to finish in the top four of the Serie A table or challenge for the Scudetto. Le Aquile finished seventh in the Serie A table last season and are very likely to do much better this time around, given how things are going for them at the moment.

Marco Baroni’s side are as high as fourth in the Serie A table with 35 points from 18 matches. They are five points behind second-placed Inter Milan, who have played 17 games. Lazio are six points behind leaders Atalanta and are very much in the race for the Scudetto this season.

Lazio will head into the Derby della Capitale against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome next weekend on the back of a 1-1 draw with Atalanta at home in the league. It came after a 2-1 victory over Lecce on the road in Serie A which followed a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Inter Milan in Rome in the league.

Team News:

Lazio are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against AS Roma. Ivan Provedel will be in goal. Manuel Lazzari, Mario Gila, Alessio Romagnoli and Nuno Tavares will be the four defenders. Matteo Guendouzi and Nicolo Rovella will be the two holding midfielders. Gustav Isaksen, Boulaye Dia and Mattia Zaccagni will be the three playmakers. Valentin Castellanos will lead the line for Lazio.

Key Factors to Consider

  • AS Roma have lost 8 of their 18 Serie A games this campaign.
  • AS Roma have scored 24 goals and conceded 24 goals in 17 Serie A games this campaign.
  • Valentin Castellanos has scored 7 goals and provided 1 assist in 15 Serie A games for Lazio this campaign.
  • Lazio have conceded 25 goals in 18 Serie A matches this season.
  • Lazio have scored 33 goals in 18 Serie A matches this season.

Conclusion

AS Roma and Lazio are bitter rivals, and the derby between the two great Roman clubs next weekend is going to be hugely exciting and fiercely competitive. While Lazio are in great form at the moment, Roma are starting to do well. It is very likely that this particular Serie A game will end in a draw.
