Kelechi Iheanacho: Five clubs in race to sign Sevilla forward ahead of January window

Soccer

The January transfer window is fast approaching, and Sevilla FC forward Kelechi Iheanacho has become a subject of interest for multiple clubs across Europe, Soccernet.ng reports.

Reports suggest that several top European clubs, including West Ham United, Watford FC, West Bromwich Albion, Getafe CF, and Las Palmas, are interested in signing the Nigerian international.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Leicester City, has struggled to find his rhythm in La Liga.

Earlier reports suggest that this has prompted Sevilla to consider offloading him as part of their squad restructuring plans. Despite his challenges in Spain, the Nigerian international remains a highly sought-after talent.

Sevilla’s Intentions

According to transfer specialist Ekrem Konur, Sevilla are looking to cash in on Iheanacho in January to make room for new signings.

Despite head coach García Pimienta’s public support, the 28-year-old has failed to live up to expectations, with no goals in seven La Liga appearances.

Pimienta recently acknowledged Iheanacho’s efforts in training but admitted that game time has been hard to come by.

“Kelechi [Iheanacho] trains well, he is very well liked by his teammates, he is even very respected. For whatever reason, he is not getting the minutes that make you have continuity, perform better. If he decides to leave in the market, an offer comes up or whatever… I am happy with him,” Pimienta remarked.

English Clubs Monitor Situation

A return to English football appears to be a strong possibility for Iheanacho, with Championship sides West Brom and Watford reportedly keen on signing him.

Both clubs are in dire need of a proven goal scorer to boost their promotion campaigns and see Iheanacho as a potential solution.

Meanwhile, Premier League outfit West Ham United are also said to be monitoring the Nigerian’s situation closely.

Julen Lopetegui’s side is reportedly looking to bolster their attacking options, and Iheanacho’s experience in England could make him an ideal candidate.

La Liga Contenders Emerge

Closer to home, Getafe CF and Las Palmas have expressed interest in Iheanacho, with both clubs eager to strengthen their attacks.

Las Palmas, in particular, are reportedly preparing a loan proposal for the forward as they seek reinforcements to maintain their progress in the league.

Getafe, on the other hand, view Iheanacho as a potential game-changer and are said to be exploring a loan deal that could see the striker stay in Spain. However, the club is also keeping tabs on other targets, including Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq.
