Liverpool chasing Bundesliga star

Liverpool will hope to move a step closer to qualification for the Champions League knockout stages when they face Spanish side Girona on Tuesday night.

The Reds saw their lead at the top of the Premier League table cut to four points over the weekend, after their Merseyside derby fixture against Everton was postponed.

Arne Slot’s side still sit comfortably atop the domestic standings, and they also occupy first place in the Champions League group phase table, where the top eight sides qualify automatically for the next round.

The Dutchman will therefore be confident that his side can progress through to the knockouts, and he will hope to see his side get the better of Girona in Spain on Tuesday.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Reds are chasing a Bundesliga star.

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside outfit are keeping tabs on Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies with a view to potentially signing the player next summer.

Davies could leave Bayern when his contract expires next summer

Davies, 24, will soon enter into the final six months of his current contract with the Bavarian side, and he could therefore be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

He could also sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of Germany next month.

Davies joined Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps five years ago and has since played 215 times for the German giants.

He remains a regular in Vincent Kompany’s side, having missed just one Bundesliga match so far this term.

Despite this, the Canada international is yet to sign a new deal with his current club and is therefore currently just months away from potentially leaving The Allianz Arena.

It is claimed that Liverpool initially thought they wouldn’t be able to afford the Canadian’s wage demands and signing on fee, but the club now believe that they can reach an agreement with the left-back.
