  • Meta has released an AI agent to enhance the metaverse experience
  • Dubbed Meta Motivo, it aims to smoothen how avatars move in the virtual world
  • Meta also wants to use the model to create “new types of immersive experiences”

Tech giant Meta has released an AI model dubbed Meta Motivo to create “new types of immersive experiences” in the metaverse. Meta also wants to use the AI agent to make avatar body gestures in the metaverse to closely resemble those of humans. The release comes as the tech heavyweight intensifies its AI exploration missions, something that has caused some in the web3 industry to accuse Meta of abandoning its metaverse vision.

Motivo Trained With “Novel Algorithm”

According to a blog post explaining the AI agent, Meta said the model is “trained with a novel algorithm” that uses motions meant to increase how avatars express human-like behaviors.

Meta revealed that the model can solve most body control problems experienced by avatars when interpreting human movements. Apart from mimicking human gestures, the AI model also enables avatars to adapt their movements in a changing environment. Meta added that it wishes to use the model as a basis for “more lifelike NPCs [non-playable characters].”

Apart from releasing Meta Motivo, the tech giant also disclosed that it has released other products like Meta Video Seal and Flow Matching. Meta Video Seal provides a way for content creators to incorporate an invisible, but traceable, watermark on their videos.

Meta Believes Metaverse Hype Shifted To AI

Flow Matching is a “state-of-the-art generative paradigm […] for images, videos audio, music [and] 3D structures.” Flow Matching uses AI to allow the generation of these types of content using complex commands.

The release of Meta Motivo comes three months after the tech heavyweight launched a low-cost version of its Quest 3 metaverse headset. It also comes nine months after Meta noted that the hype around virtual worlds has shifted to AI.

With the AI model likely to be confined to enhancing Meta-created metaverse products, it’s to be seen whether the company will open its use to other tech and blockchain firms.
