Jerry Jones: Dallas Cowboys have no interest in trading Micah Parsons

Football

The last few days have been quite eventful for the Dallas Cowboys. From a football standpoint, they bounced back after their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with a win over the Carolina Panthers. Despite a little flub near the end of the first half, the Cowboys were in supreme control of the entire game. It was arguably their finest performance of the season.

Given that they are the Cowboys though, there have been a few headlines generated around them. To be clear the headlines are a result of the team’s front office speaking to the media so this is a bit of a “we’re all trying to find the guy who did this” situation, but par for the course and all that jazz.

The biggest headline came from Stephen Jones in a sit down with NFL Media. In case you missed it, Stephen somewhat opened the door for a conversation about trading Micah Parsons in the offseason. Stephen ultimately said this was unlikely, but he left the door ajar which started the frenzy.

Jerry Jones says the Dallas Cowboys have not spoken about trading Micah Parsons

Jerry Jones to the rescue!

Making his standard Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones threw cold water on any notion that the Cowboys have a plan to trade Micah Parsons in the future.

Jerry Jones on @1053thefan clarifying Stephen Jones’ comments on Micah Parsons

“He did not in any way say that Micah Parsons was an issue looking ahead at the future… that’s never been uttered in this organization that we don’t have a future with Micah Parsons.” #DallasCowboys

To be clear the new headline is that Jerry Jones is refuting the headline generated by Stephen Jones. This front office is truly elite at running around in circles and acting like they are moving north.

Nevertheless, it is important that Jerry mentioned that the Cowboys do not seem interested in trading Parsons away. This season has been a challenging one in many ways but there is no question that the Cowboys are closer to their ultimate goals with Micah Parsons on their roster and not represented by capital acquired in some sort of trade.

For what it’s worth, Parsons handled the rumors rather well. Speaking after the Panthers win, the first time Parsons was available after Stephen’s comments were publicized, he noted that he understood that this was all a business and that he ultimately wanted to be with the Cowboys.

Cowboys DE Micah Parsons when asked about an @NFLNetwork report that the Cowboys haven’t ruled out trading him in the offseason: “I understand how that business side goes. There are no hard feelings in this business, whether I’m here or anywhere else. Obviously I’ve stated that I…

It would behoove the Cowboys to get an extension done with Parsons as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this is already impossible as Dallas squandered the window that last offseason presented. The front office infamously dragged their feet with the extensions that they ultimately wound up handing out to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, repeating that behavior would benefit nobody and is hopefully something they learned from.

How many times have we said that last sentence, though?
