Netflix & Roku Pick Up Wham! Doc

Netflix and Roku have taken U.S. rights on the BBC and Blink FilmsWham! doc, which airs tomorrow.

WHAM!: Last Christmas Unwrapped has been acquired from Sony Pictures Entertainment by Netflix and Roku for audiences in the U.S., SBS for Australia and TV New Zealand.

The doc tells the story of how George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley’s beloved ’80s duo turned one song into a cultural phenomenon. It launches tomorrow on the BBC and the following day in the U.S. We unveiled trailer late last week, which can be seen below.

Directed by BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Nigel Cole (Calendar Girls, Made in Dagenham), the show includes an exclusive broadcast of Michael performing “Last Christmas” at Wembley Arena in December 2006 along with never before seen outtakes from the original 35mm music video footage. It will also reunite some of the group of friends from the original music video, set against the snow-covered backdrop of Saas-Fee in Switzerland. Interviewees include Mary J Blige, Bob Geldof, Neil Tennant and Sam Smith, who give their views on the song’s themes of unrequited love and loss.   

Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, produced by Blink Films and Sony Music Entertainment in association with Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael Entertainment, will air tomorrow on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
