3 tips to help construction businesses be more successful in 2025

Raise your hand if you want 2025 to be your business’ best year yet. Yes, it’s easier said than done, but all it takes is strategy, preparation, and a little help from technology. We’re about to share three tips to help you find the best projects to bid on, plan for the new year, and using the last bits of that 2024 budget to your advantage.

Target the right projects

It sounds obvious, doesn’t it? The reality is that it can be very easy to commit to the wrong projects for your business.

Finding the right one doesn’t have to take time, but it does require good data. That means knowing what projects are proposed for your target locations, how much they are spending, and what products and materials they are specifying.

Having this data allows you to tailor your bids and estimates to the project owner’s needs.

The challenge is finding this information and making sure it is current. That’s where you’ll want to start using construction project software to filter results and keep a pipeline of future bids.

ConstructConnect’s software tracks more than 600,000 active construction projects across the U.S. and provide you with all the details and up-to-date addendum.

Justin Menke, President of Keystone Construction Services, in Cumming, Iowa, and a ConstructConnect customer, tells us, “The software has paid for itself with one job.”

Going into further detail, he adds, “ConstructConnect has helped my company grow. Using ConstructConnect I can find the right projects, bid more, and have the opportunity to win more work.”

Define your strategic priorities

These final few weeks of the year are prime opportunities to sit down and ask yourself some questions about your business’ future:

  • Is 2025 the time to enter a new market?
  • Is it the year to expand to more trades?
  • What else can we do to stand out from the competition?

Only you can answer these questions. If growth is the answer, though, tools like ConstructConnect Project Intelligence or ConstructConnect Bid Management can help galvanize your relationships—getting your name in front of clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and even local authorities.

Use the remainder of your 2024 budget

Do you have any money left in your budget for the year? Put it to good use in marketing, tools, and your people.

This is a great time of year to look at marketing your company. As people start to plan for the year ahead, they’ll want to learn about trusted service providers. Consider putting some money towards ads on social media, local publications, or put some time aside to make your business more visible on search engines.

Invest in your staff. If the budget is there, perhaps there are trainings that can boost both your employees’ skillsets and morale. Ask them if there are areas they want to grow in and get better at. Our free Labor guide provides practical tips on attracting, hiring, retaining and recognizing talent.

Finally, this is also a great time to investigate new tools and software for your business. Whether your business is specialized, like plumbing or HVAC, you perform general construction, or you’re making the products for other builders, ConstructConnect has a solution for you to find the right projects and people, and build your brand.

With the right strategy, clear priorities, and smart investments, 2025 can be a winning year for your construction business. Between targeting the right projects, creating long-term goals, and spending on advertising or developing employees, these steps can help set you up for growth.
