Soccer Fulham coach laps up Iwobi performance with praise following brace against Brighton and Hove Albion

Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder, Alex Chuka Iwobi, has had his best-ever start to a Premier League this campaign, and has broken a goalscoring record with his club side, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old has scored five goals and provided three assists in 14 league games this season, most recently a brace against Brighton and Hove Albion last season.

Following his double against the Seagulls last night, the former Arsenal man became the Nigerian with the most goals for Fulham. The goals against Brighton brought Iwobi’s total goals for Fulham up to 11, which has placed him above Sone Aluko (9) as the Cottagers highest scoring Nigerian.

Additionally, ten of Iwobi’s goals have been in the Premier League, making him the 24th Fulham player to hit double figures in the history of the competition.

In comparison, Iwobi’s goalscoring has put him level with other Premier League stars like Bukayo Saka, Alexander Isak and Luis Diaz. They’ve all scored five.

The former Everton man was at his creative best last night, and was the first player to score two goals, complete more than three take ons, win more than five duels, and win over possession more than five times in a single top-flight game this year.

Away from Iwobi, the Fulham team also set records of their own last night. Marco Silva’s side equalled their club record of scoring in 13 successive top division matches so far.

They’ve now both scored and conceded in all seven of their Premier League home games this season. In their league history, only in the 1950/51 season have they had a longer such run from the start of a campaign.

Fulham face a huge test this weekend as they take on title-contenders, Arsenal, at the Craven Cottage on Sunday.
