Soccer Barcelona target Super Eagles defender in swap deal with Ansu Fati

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, Soccernet.ng understands.

The versatile defender, who can also play in midfield and as a winger, has attracted interest from several English Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Everton, ahead of the expiration of his current contract with Fenerbahçe at the end of the season.

However, reports from Turkey indicate that Osayi-Samuel may extend his stay in Istanbul, with the club offering him an improved contract to secure his future.

Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho is reportedly a big admirer of the 26-year-old and sees him as a crucial part of his squad.

While Osayi-Samuel appears committed to the club’s project, Barcelona’s interest could dramatically alter the situation.

The Catalan giants are said to be preparing a swap deal involving their highly-rated forward, Ansu Fati, to entice Fenerbahçe.

Turkish media claim that Fenerbahçe had already identified Fati as a key target for the January transfer window, and Barcelona now sees the opportunity to use the Spanish international in negotiations for Osayi-Samuel.

According to El Gol Digital via Ajansspor, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has been particularly impressed with Osayi-Samuel’s versatility.

The Nigerian star, who has made 13 appearances for Fenerbahçe this season, has shown his ability to excel in multiple positions.

If Fenerbahçe reject the proposed swap deal, Barcelona may wait to sign Osayi-Samuel as a free agent when his contract expires.

Osayi-Samuel, who joined Fenerbahçe from QPR in 2021 for €508,000, has become a vital player for the Turkish side and continues to be a key figure in their domestic and European campaigns.

With Barcelona monitoring his situation closely, the coming months could prove decisive for the Super Eagles defender’s future.
