Communications Authority approves TVB channel changes

The Communications Authority (CA) on Monday said it has approved an application by TVB to change its line-up of channels.

From next Monday, channel 82 – “J2” and “TVB Finance, Sports and Information Channel” – will be replaced by “TVB Plus”.

There will also be a new “Phoenix Hong Kong Channel” under channel 85.

In a statement, the authority said TVB will continue to provide five channels under its free television programme service.

“In approving the application, the CA has taken into account that TVB will continue to comply with all applicable regulatory requirements under the Broadcasting Ordinance and its free TV licence, and to shoulder the editorial responsibility for the broadcast contents included in its licensed service after completion of the above changes in the programme channel line-up,” the statement said.

The authority also approved a temporary waiver from compliance with the subtitling requirement for “Phoenix Hong Kong Channel” until July 21.

In a statement, the station said “TVB Plus” will combine free TV content with interactive content on its social media platforms.

“TVB Plus will offer a wide range of fascinating drama, non-drama, finance and sports programmes, as well as original productions showcasing the expertise of our production teams,” it said.
