Soccer Eight goals in three games: Golden Eaglets record thumping win in Abuja friendly ahead of WAFU B tourney

Nigeria’s under-17 national team recorded a thumping 6-0 victory over P. Sports Academy in a friendly match at the FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.

It is the Golden Eaglets’ third friendly game in three days against football academies in the Federal Capital Territory, recording one win and two draws.

The Eaglets started with a 1-1 draw against Ikon-Allah Academy on Monday, April 23rd, and followed it with another 1-1 draw with Miracle Football Academy on Tuesday.

The Manu Garba-tutored lads finally found their attacking verve on Thursday against P. Sports Academy.

The five-time world champions scored twice in the first half before smashing another four goals after the break as the team stepped up their preparations ahead of the WAFU B tourney.

The 2024 WAFU B U17 Championships will be hosted in Ghana, where Nigeria will look to defend the title they won at the regional tournament in 2022.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo, while Group A has only three teams – hosts Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Benin Republic.

The tournament will take place between May 15 and 29.

The Golden Eaglets remain the most successful team in international football for their age group, winning a record five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles, and are runners-up on three occasions.
