Sir Robert McAlpine has completed a reorganisation of its corporate structure in a bid to focus on its “priority sectors”.
In addition to a focus on healthcare, industrial and commercial, heritage and offices, the firm announced it would target growth in the rail, transport and nuclear sectors. The firm’s new structure is also “national [and] sector-focused” rather than regional as it was before.
The former managing director for the North and Scotland, Mark Gibson, is the new managing director for healthcare, while the former project director on phases 3a and 3b at Battersea Power Station, Mark Taylor, becomes managing director for major projects.
Mike O’Donnell, who served in senior roles at the firm between 2003 and 2019, returns to the firm as managing director for commercial.
Sir Robert McAlpine is now headed by a new board led by its chair and executive partner, Edward McAlpine.
Paul Hamer, the firm’s chief executive since 2017, and executive partner Hector McAlpine will also sit on the board, while other new additions include executive managing directors for engineering and technical services, buildings, and infrastructure.
The firm also went through a redundancy consultation as part of the reshuffle, which it said resulted in less than 40 job cuts – fewer than the 60 jobs which it said could be lost.
Hamer said the collective expertise of the board and senior leadership “creates a driving force to achieve our new vision”.
“I am confident that this move to a sector-focused model with national centres of excellence sets us up for long term success, giving our people fulfilling and rewarding careers, as we work with our clients to construct a better world for future generations,” he added.
