This ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ Boss Fight Is One Of The Most Thrilling Moments Of Any Video Game I’ve Ever Played

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has mostly met with favorable reviews, but it’s facing some justified backlash from PC players upset with the game’s lackluster performance.

I wrote about this the other day, warning gamers about the game’s problems the day before it released. Luckily for me, however, the big Day Zero patch solved most of the game’s problems—though this isn’t the case for everyone.

While before I was seeing major framerate drops and hard crashes, I’m mostly getting above 70 frames-per-second now with only the occasional dip, and no crashes (knock on wood) since the update. This is a good thing especially for big, chaotic moments, epic fights and cinematic cutscenes—all choke points before the update that could bring the game to its knees.

I say this because scenes like the one below would simply not be as awesome if they were stuttering like crazy or if the sound and dialogue was all messed up.

In the video below, I’m playing a mission on the desert planet of Jedha along with the Dathomirian Nightsister, Merrin. After a pretty long and involved mission where Cal Kestis gains a new power, you find yourself pursued by this gargantuan metal monstrosity. It’s a mining robot that looks like a massive flying squid. Using your powers and green portals that Merrin conjures with her magic, Cal and Merrin are able to pull off some pretty insane stunts.

This game’s platforming is simply superb, and this scene is a showcase of much of what the game is all about: Wall-running, double-jumping, air-dashing, ziplining, grapple-hooking, and using the force and Merrin’s magic to pretty much fly across this vast, desert landscape. It’s absolutely stunning, though I realize that for some gamers experiencing performance issues, it will sadly not be as fun as it should be.

In the video, I didn’t realize I was recording with my second mic which was away from my face at the time, so when I screw up a few times (it’s hard to see where to go with all the crazy visual effects!) you can hear me sort of laughing or wailing in the distance (lol, my bad). Still, what a moment in this game! So cool!

Enjoy:

I’m not sure that actually qualifies as a boss fight, but it’s close enough. It reminds me a bit of the epic scale and cinematic nature of early God Of War game’s boss fights, but with some Prince Of Persia thrown into the mix. Pretty neat!

If you’d like to see a little more of the game in action, I review it (with Baby Yoda) in the below video:

How’s your time with Jedi: Survivor been so far? Is it running okay or is it a buggy mess? It really seems to vary from person to person even on the same platform. Anyways: Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
