Peabody seeks builders for £100m fire repair work

Peabody has announced it is seeking contractors to help it deliver £100m of fire remediation work across its projects.

The housing association is launching a significant fire remediation programme to follow government guidance and carry out fire-safety assessments.

Peabody, which manages 55,000 properties, has around 75 schemes of multiple cores and varying heights, all of which require some form of fire remediation. Works will mainly be carried out within the M25 area.

The cost of each remediation project will range from £250k to £15m as each varies greatly in the required works. Some require “a complete linear external rebuild” but some need only smaller isolated fixes, such as replacing decking.

Peabody Trust is seeking to establish a framework agreement with contractors to complete the work.

Peabody director of fire remediation Mansoor Bashir said that, if needed, the cladding on Peabody buildings will be changed to fit current guidelines.

He added that the housing association was seeking contractors with extensive remediation experience, especially during the past two to three years.

Established in 1862, Peabody is one of London’s oldest and largest housing associations with properties across London and the South East.
