A New Bulgari Hotels & Resorts’ Star is Born: Bulgari Hotel Roma Will Open on June 9th, 2023

Bulgari Hotels & Resorts is proud to announce the opening of Bulgari Hotel Roma on June 9th, 2023. Located in Piazza Augusto Imperatore n.10, the new hotel will be the ninth gem of the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts collection adding a new glamourous milestone to the history of Bulgari and its hometown.

The Bulgari Hotel Roma is the latest creation in the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts collection which comprises properties in Milan, London, Paris, Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, and Bali, as well as the recently opened Bulgari Hotel Tokyo. The Maldives, Miami (both 2025) and Los Angeles (2026) have also been announced as future destinations.

The new Roman hotel will be strategically located in the central Piazza Augusto Imperatore in the very heart of the Campo Marzio neighbourhood, a stone’s throw from Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, the iconic Spanish Steps and the signature Bulgari flagship on Via Condotti.

The Piazza is named after Emperor Augustus, and hosts two of the most iconic monuments of the Roman history built by emperor Augustus himself: the Mausoleum of Augustus, his tomb, and the Ara Pacis, a monument to celebrate the peace brought by Augustus during his reign.

The building hosting the Bulgari Hotel Roma, built between 1936 and 1938, and inaugurated in 1950 by Alcide De Gasperi, the Italian Prime Minister, stands right in front of the Mausoleum, which has been recently renovated, and represents an exquisite example of rationalist architecture in Rome.

Designed by architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo and decorated with frescos, mosaics and sculptures, the building reveals a monumental, modern architecture emphasised by the use of traditional Roman materials and colours, such as ochre Travertine marble and burnt red brick. The rigorous rationalist architectural appeal of the building is counterbalanced by Antonio Barrera’s frescos, running in the via della Frezza atrium and offering different views of the Mausoleum of Augustus, while the Southern face is decorated with a 70-square-metre mosaic by Ferruccio Ferrazzi, who offered his personal interpretation of the Roman foundation myth.

Standing out on the building’s façade, on top of a splendid fountain, a Latin inscription says: “This is the place where the Emperor Augustus’ soul flies through the air.”

This unique connection between the new Bulgari Hotel Roma and Emperor Augustus’ vision and historical time is highlighted in the hotel thorough a series of stylistic choices visible in the different areas such as the original statue from the precious Torlonia collection representing Emperor Augustus that is placed in the hotel entrance vestibule, and the large use of marbles, both white Travertine and coloured, which in the ancient Rome were symbols of richness and power.

As for the other Bulgari Hotels in the world, Italian architecture and interior design practice ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel have been in charge of both the architectural project and the interior design of the hotel which creates a balance between the rigor of the stones used in Imperial Rome, and rich textures contrasting with the architectural essentiality of the building.

The approach to the restoration of the building was the same as the one that Bulgari applies when creating a high jewel by leveraging on the maximum expertise of craftsmanship and art: an endless list of design details reflects the excellence of the Italian manufacturing, form the hand-made mosaic rosettes in the bathrooms to the made-to-measure tapestries inspired by Bulgari iconic patterns and the hand-made Murano crystals and lamps which decorate the different hotel’s spaces.

The hotel counts 114 rooms, most of them suites, decorated in four different colour palettes: white, yellow, red and green, and offering each one a beautiful view either of the Piazza Augusto Imperatore or of Via della Frezza street, a typical Roman small lane with an old fashion charm.

Located on the second floor and enjoying a spectacular view of the Mausoleum of Augustus, just in front of the hotel, the 300 sqm Bulgari Suite is a quiet heaven right in the heart of the historic center of Rome. This spacious guest room, furnished with famous pieces of furniture from Antonio Citterio’s Flexform and Maxalto collections and custom tapestries by Venetian textile manufacturer Rubelli, features a large master bedroom, a living space and an exclusive dining room to offer a true ‘Imperial’ stay to its guests.

The Bulgari Suite master bedroom presents an elegant walk-in closet and a large restroom with a vanity table, steam shower and a white marble carved bathtub that, due to its size, was set in the suite by crane before installing the room’s windows. The Bulgari Suite can be easily expanded by connecting it to the suites next door.

At the heart of the Tridente and Campo Marzio, Bulgari Hotel Rome will be home to five signature-dining options all of them curated by chef Niko Romito, one of the world’s most celebrated chefs with three Michelin stars for his Reale restaurant in Abruzzo, and since 2017 at the helm of the culinary project for Bulgari Hotels and Resorts.

Offering a seductive view of Piazza Augusto Imperatore and located on the fifth floor, Il Ristorante – Niko Romito presents the contemporary Italian cuisine menu, exclusively created by the Chef for Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, in a warm and elegant atmosphere with mahogany wood walls, Bulgari artworks and comfortable ‘banquettes’ style tables. It opens on a large outdoor terrace overlooking the historical Tomb of Emperor Augustus and the Ara Pacis, and includes a Private Dining Room hosting up to 12 people, entirely decorated with a made-to-measure silk tapestry representing the Zodiac.

On the same floor, The Bulgari Bar, featuring a large black marble counter decorated with Murano crystals cones that reflect the lights, is the place to be for sophisticated sipping and socialising, including a large terrace with a lounge set-up and an outdoor bar corner.

As a unique feature, a rooftop terrace, La Terrazza, furnished with cabanas and lounges areas, offers the most spellbinding views of Rome’s skyline. Here, an Italian style informal menu of snacks and light dishes is available all day according to the La Terrazza atmosphere, which will change throughout the day – a sundeck area during daytime, transforming into the most glamourous spot for aperitivo during the sunset, and the perfect after dinner under-the-sky lounge in the night. The landscaping project of La Terrazza, curated by Parc Nouveau, has been conceived as a typical Roman terrace hosting more than 200 vases featuring a rich variety of autochthone plants and flowers and was inspired by the ancient Roman villas gardens such as Villa di Livia and Villa Adriana.

On the ground floor, Italy’s first Bulgari Dolci boutique invites to experience a luxury sweet treat with the renowned Bulgari ‘chocolate gem’ delicious creations and a selection of traditional Italian pastries from the La Pasticceria – Niko Romito menu.

Facing the area of Piazza Augusto Imperatore, the refined and exclusive ambience of the Lobby Lounge is available all day for guests with a menu of afternoon tea and aperitivo. More casual than its counterparts, Il Caffé, at the ground floor with a large outdoor space under the porch decorated with large vases of plants and flowers, is the perfect spot to stop by for a morning coffee or lunch with a menu of roman specialities. On Sunday, a rich brunch is prepared to enjoy the weekend in a relaxed atmosphere.

Bulgari Hotel Roma also includes a Reading Room containing a collection of precious volumes dedicated to Roman art, design, history and architecture which will be open not only to the hotel guests but also to the public by appointment.

The 1500 sqm Bulgari Spa is a proper wellbeing temple, recreating the atmosphere of the ancient Roman Baths with marble columns rising from the swimming pool and coloured glass windows to infuse a warm and suffuse light. A harmonious retreat to balance the body, mind and spirit, it features nine treatment rooms, a 25-metre pool and vitality pool made of shimmering mosaic tiles inspired by the patterns of the historic Terme di Caracalla Baths and Augustinus Bader’s wellness treatments.

The adjacent fitness space features state-of-the-art technology and has been entrusted to WORKSHOP GYMNASIUM training method exclusively created for Bulgari by Lee Mullins.
