In many competitive video games, the character you choose can be a reflection of how you play the game. Players often gravitate towards characters that fit in with their preferred playstyles, while also trying to pick the strongest characters that will give them a strong shot of winning. The same is true of League of Legends champions.
League of Legends features a large number of characters, known in-game as champions, allowing for a great deal of personal expression on the part of individual players. Here’s an overview of the total champion count for League of Legends.
How characters work in LoL
Champions in League of Legends are split into six different classes known as roles, which indicate their general function in any given match. The six roles are Assassin, Fighter, Mage, Marksman, Support and Tank. An ideal team will feature champions from a mix of roles in order to maximize both the offensive and defensive capabilities of the team.
In addition, each champion is assigned a difficulty score by Riot Games that roughly indicates how hard it is to master that character. For example, characters in Difficulty Tier 1 will generally be easier to pilot than those in Difficulty Tier 3. When deciding who to main in League of Legends, players should take factors like their role and difficulty into account, along with individual characteristics like character abilities.
