Kier, Morgan Sindall, Lendlease among winners on £2.5bn MoJ framework

Kier, Morgan Sindall and Lendlease are among the big winners on a £2.5bn construction framework announced by the Ministry of Justice.

The five-year framework covers new builds, refurbishment, maintenance and minor works across three value lots.

For the national lot – projects worth £10m to £30m, with a total value of £625m – eight companies were selected, with Wates, ISG, Bowmer and Kirkland, Galliford Try and Henry Brothers joining Kier, Morgan Sindall and Lendlease on the list.

Regional lots of projects worth between £5m and £10m, with a total value of £750m, were also announced.

ISG, Bowmer and Kirkland, Vinci, Henry Brothers and Henry Boot scooped the North England lot, which is worth £240m.

Work in South England, worth £195m, went to Morgan Sindall, Vinci, EW Beard, Wates and Galliford Try.

In Wales and Central England, Wates, ISG, Bowmer and Kirkland, Henry Brothers and Henry Boot won work to the value of £203m.

Morgan Sindall, Willmott Dixon Interiors, Wates, Bowmer and Kirkland and Galliford Try were all selected for work worth £113m in London and East England.

For smaller regional projects – up to £5m, with an expected total value of £1.12bn – Wates was chosen for North England, Kier for South England, ISG for Wales and Central England, and Galliford Try for London and East England.

The value of the framework could potentially be increased by £1bn if work is extended for a further two years.

The department started looking for contractors for the framework at the end of 2021, with interested companies invited to tender early last year. A total of 68 bids were received.

Earlier this year, Galliford Try was handed a £95m prison-expansion job in Warwickshire by the department, following the confirmation that Kier was to build a new £400m prison in Yorkshire.

Construction News revealed last summer that Lendlease was the contractor with which the Ministry of Justice had spent most money in the previous financial year.
