The 54th NAACP Image Awards kicked off live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Sunday night (Feb. 25). After a week of celebrating the nominees and winners of various untelevised categories, actors, actresses, and creatives of color made their way to the California venue to celebrate the remaining honorees.
Before the Queen Latifah-hosted event, the cast of nominated television series like black-ish, P-Valley, Abbott Elementary, and more walked the red carpet. NAACP Image Award recipients Kevonstage, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, and Angela Bassett appeared on the pink and gold carpet. Many couples made their way to the event, from social media personality and actress Tabitha Brown and Chance Brown to Tobe Nwigwe and Fat Nwigwe.
The annual award show delivered many warm moments of Black excellence throughout the night. The emcee opened the event with a musical number and delivered hearty jokes between acceptance speeches. Speaking of acceptance speeches. Attorney Benjamin Crimp delivered a fiery speech (and message to America) while receiving the Social Justice Impact Award. After winning the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture category, Viola Davis reflected with gratitude. Serena Williams humbly thanked the NAACP for her Jackie Robinson Sports Award. Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union dedicated their President’s Award to their daughter Zaya and Black trans people around the world.
See who else made their way this year’s NAACP Image Awards show.
