OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock supports dual 4K displays and a USB4 laptop uplink without the need for its own power brick

OWC touts its new Thunderbolt Go as the most agile and versatile dock of its type, as it connects directly to AC without the usual need for a bulky adapter. It supports 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet as well as “full-featured” USB type-C ports backed to convert even a compatible tablet into a dual-monitor, PC-like experience. It is available from now, with the possibility of a mild discount to celebrate its release to pre-order.

USB docks are often handy and even sometimes necessary companions for PCs all but restricted to USB type-C I/O. Then again, they can often prove an admittedly clunky solution thanks to the enlarged external bricks they often need, especially those rated for high-wattage power delivery as well as port expansion.

OWC may have solved that problem with its new Thunderbolt Go dock, however. It has been designed to connect directly to the wall via a conventional double-barrel AC power cable, rather than something more traditionally associated with a heavy-duty laptop.

Accordingly, its side-mounted uplink (or type-C port into which the laptop (or, possibly, iPad Pro) in question is plugged) that is rated to support standards from USB4 back to first-gen Thunderbolt also packs a power supply of up to 90W – all in the same slim metallic chassis that also sports dual Thunderbolt outputs, a single HDMI, its 2.5Gb Ethernet jack and dual 10Gb/s type-A ports.

They are found to the rear of the device along with its upgraded AC input, whereas a full-sized SD card slot is found alongside a third USB 3.2 type-C port to the front of the new product. Accordingly, the Thunderbolt Go might be the most easily deployable and even portable dual-monitor dock OWC has released to date.

It has been set at a cost of €325 or US$349.99, although it is available at a US$335 during a “Pre-order Special” event ahead of its general release in March 2023.
