Cid brings melody tunes into the new world in episode 17 of The Eminence in Shadow, titled “Moonlight That Pierces the Darkness.”

As he ponders whether Moonlight Sonata exists in this world, he hears nothing more than cheap remakes and imitations of the piece. He brings it to life in its most proper form for the enjoyment of a particular member of the Royal family.

She gets power beyond her imagination and can finally bring her dreams to fruition. With her newfound power, she takes on Alexia in battle, ending prematurely with a one-sided victory.

Recap of Episode 17

Cid lies in his bed thinking about the tournament and more ways he can show off, and his friend immediately comes to his room and asks him to help catch Rose to get the cash reward.

Meanwhile, the newspaper makes its rounds as everyone is hunting for Rose to get the reward money. He recalls his old life, where he constantly played piano to avoid interactions.

He thinks about Moonlight Sonata and hopes someone else has also been reincarnated that can relate to him. He goes and hears Epsilon play the piano but is severely disappointed and talks about it after with her.

Cid also asks her about Rose and her possible whereabouts. He sees the piano from above and is immediately tempted beyond his self-control. Beta remains undercover and walks down a staircase into an underground labyrinth.

They’re going to see if Rose is hiding under there, and we also see her point of view of what happened. Her father was hypnotized and no longer himself. She was merely trying to protect both him and her homeland.

Now she remains on the run, injured and nearly out of food. She struggles with regret and recalls her interaction with Cid, asking if he still believes in her. She hears the Moonlight Sonata play from under and sees multiple feathers flying in its beauty.

Shadow plays the song with utmost perfection and beauty, a masterpiece that no one else can recreate. He asks Rose what her aim is and what she plans to do henceforth and offers her power if she chooses to move forward.

Rose receives this power to change the world and keep up the fight and mysteriously leaves the area. The cult of diablos reaches at the exact time, and Rose takes them all out in one quick slash.

Meanwhile, Alexia and Beta also encounter Rose, and she walks past them without a care in the world, not wanting them to be involved. But Alexia will not let it happen and immediately attacks her, and they trade blows, but Alexia is overpowered.

As Cid returns home, the face of a dark-haired girl is awaiting his arrival.

The Eminence in Shadow, a manga by Daisuke Aizawa, started serialization in 2018. It is scheduled to receive an anime in October 2022.
