Roundup: Sunrise EMR goes live at Lyell McEwin Hospital and more briefs

Latest Sunrise EMR implementation in South Australia

Lyell McEwin Hospital, a major tertiary hospital in Adelaide, has gone live with the Sunrise EMR and PAS by Altera Digital Health.

LMH, a part of the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, provides medical, surgical, diagnostic, emergency and support services to a population of more than 400,000 people.

The Sunrise PAS first went live with key clinical functionality at LMH’s emergency department in October last year.

Over the next two years, the Sunrise EMR will be implemented across SA’s regional hospitals and local health networks, following the government’s A$31.1 million ($21.5 million) investment in the project.

Victorian health services get equipment boost

The Victorian government has set aside A$55 million ($38 million) to deliver new medical equipment to 23 health services statewide.

The latest round of the government’s Medical Equipment Replacement Program will provide those services with new diagnostic tools like MRI machines, microscopes, digital x-ray units and CT scanners, as well as heart imaging equipment such as fluoroscopy units and SPECT-CT gamma cameras.

NSW, Victoria launch funds for medical startups, research

New funds supporting medical startups and research have been put up in New South Wales and Victoria.

The NSW government has launched a A$40 million ($27.7 million) Biosciences Fund to support startups in the biological sciences field (including medical and life sciences) to develop and market their products over the next four years.

Meanwhile, the Victorian government has opened the 2022 Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research, which since 1995 has been recognising exceptional contributions and capabilities of up-and-coming health and medical researchers in the state.

Recipients in five categories will receive $5,000 each and an additional $15,000 will be given to the Premier’s Excellence award.
