The Guest Who Wouldn’t Leave: Hollywood Darling Stacey Abrams Says She Will Run Again

(The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.)

Two-time Georgia gubernatorial contest loser and election denier Stacey Abrams said on Drew Barrymore’s daytime talk show Monday that she will likely run again, although she did not say what position she would actually compete for. In yet another peak Hollywood cringe moment, after Abrams’ proclamation, Barrymore enthusiastically screamed “Yesss! YESSS!” to her masked-up crowd as if she was recreating the diner scene in When Harry Met Sally.

Barrymore seems nice enough, but really? Why the cult-like enthusiasm? Has Abrams done something great for this country that I somehow missed?

“I will likely run again,” Abrams said. “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. If it doesn’t work, you try again.”

True, Abe Lincoln lost a plethora of contests on his way to his historic presidency, but to paraphrase a line from the late Lloyd Bentsen, “You ma’am, are no Abe Lincoln.”

Abrams just got shellacked in November by eight points in her second run for the governor’s office, losing both times to Republican Brian Kemp. Even in a cycle that saw unfathomably bad andidates like John Fetterman win in his Pennsylvania Senate bid, Abrams was unable to even come close.

There is one thing she does very well though: raise money. In 2018, she raised $27 million in her failed quest, and in 2022 she raised a massive $113 million. RedState’s Joe Cunningham reported that she managed to blow through all of it with extravagant, bizarre (can we say questionable?) expenditures.

Inexplicably, despite not having many accomplishments, routinely saying outrageous things, supporting defund the police, and not having the gravitas of a leader, Abrams somehow has become a darling of the left and a Hollywood favorite. She was laughably given the role of President of the United Earth in the Paramount+ TV series Star Trek: Discovery, and folks like Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey fawn over her incessantly.

She’s also famous for promoting voting rights and insists race-based disenfranchisement is a massive problem in Georgia despite record minority turnout in the state during the most recent election. I could call her an extremist on abortion, meanwhile, but I’ll just let her tell you herself:

There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.

Sure it is. Add medical genius to her list of qualifications.

It baffles me that the left, Hollywood and the mainstream media keep latching themselves onto extreme, talent-starved politicians like Abrams and Texas genius Beto O’Rourke, candidates who never actually seem to win anything but are the recipients of fawning magazine spreads, gushing interviews, and breathless predictions. I would get annoyed and maybe even angry, but… wait.

Keep running folks like these, Democrats. Run again, Stacey—and run again, Beto! You will surely get your behinds handed to you once again, but it’ll be fun watching you burn through millions in doing so.
