A man has faced court after allegedly stabbing a man in the state’s north-west on the weekend.
Emergency services were called to a mining camp at Grawin, about 70km west of Lightning Ridge, about 6.30am on Sunday 19 July 2026, with reports a man had been stabbed.
Officers attached to Central North Police District arrived and were told a man in his 40s had been asleep in his caravan when another man had allegedly entered and attacked him, stabbing him several times.
The man reportedly walked to a nearby mining camp where a resident rendered assistance and began driving him towards Walgett, with police and NSW Ambulance paramedics meeting the two on Gingie Road near Walgett.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to Walgett Hospital for further treatment of stab wounds to his chest, ribs, back and wrist. He was then airlifted to Dubbo Base Hospital for surgery, where he remains in a stable condition.
Police established a crime scene at the Grawin mining camp.
Following extensive inquiries, about 10.30am yesterday (Monday 20 July 2026), Rural Crime Investigators and Central North Police District detectives arrested a 73-year-old man at a mining camp at Grawin.
He was taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 21 July 2026), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before Walgett Local Court on Tuesday 29 September 2026.
