Former NPFL champions Rivers United are currently at loggerheads with league rivals Remo Stars regarding the signing of midfielder Alex Oyowah, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has established himself as one of the standout performers in the Nigerian top flight over the past three years.
He played a pivotal role in Remo Stars’ league title success two seasons ago, though he was unable to prevent the club’s relegation last season.

Rivers United are keen on signing the playmaker to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. However, negotiations have stalled as both clubs are yet to reach an agreement.
According to Nigerian journalist Mike The Pundit, Rivers United are prepared to meet Remo Stars’ financial valuation of the player. The primary points of contention are the proposed contract duration and a 50% sell-on clause included by Remo Stars.

Following Remo Stars’ relegation, several key players have begun to depart, with Haruna Hadi recently joining Sporting Lagos. For Oyowah, a transfer may be the ideal next step to continue his development. Having previously played for the Pride of Rivers, he should have little trouble adjusting to the team’s setup.
A move to Rivers United would offer Oyowah the opportunity to challenge for the NPFL title and compete in continental football, following the club’s second-place finish last season.
Oyowah represented Nigeria at the 2025 Championship for African Nations (CHAN), where he earned the Man of the Match award in Nigeria’s final game against Congo. Whether he will secure his move to Rivers United in the coming days remains to be seen.
