In Pictures: BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Hits Sunderland

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend is an annual all-you-can-eat pop buffet, with the rolling musical cavalcade hitting cities around the country. For this summer’s instalment the team laid down roots in the North East, with thousands upon thousands of music fans heading to Sunderland for a weekend of audio thrills.

The eclectic line-up included some CLASH favourites, including Swedish pop queen Zara Larsson, Irish country-pop wonder CMAT, and the returning Lola Young.

Acclaimed UK songwriter and producer James Blake performed, while Rachel Chinouriri also previewed her next era.
