New York rapper Wiki will release his new album ‘Ancient History’ on June 12th via Wikset Enterprise.
Wiki has become a key fixture of New York City hip-hop since founding the experimental rap group Ratking at 17-years-old, representing a new generation of city kids spearheading an avant-garde sound with renegade punk-rap energy.
Since the mid-2010s, Wiki has expanded his sonic ambitions beyond the group. He released his debut solo full-length project in 2019, titled ‘Oofie’, in addition to a slew of collaborative projects with Tony Seltzer, MIKE & The Alchemist, Navy Blue, NAH and Subjxct5.
‘Ancient History’ is rooted in the spaces Wiki has spent the last few years returning to most: New York City parks. Not as symbols or scenery, but as part of everyday life; places to meet friends, write, think, observe people, and briefly step outside the rush of the city without ever really leaving it.
The lead single ‘Park’ captures that immersive headspace directly. Over warm, tempered production, Wiki paints the park as both refuge and workspace – somewhere to clear his head while staying connected to the pulse of the city around him.
“A little cut / Escape from all the rush / Amongst the muck,” he raps. “Caught in a sea of concrete – what these streets are / I need to see some trees even if these trees sparse.”
The album is shaped by production from The Alchemist, Navy Blue, Dom Maker (Mount Kimbie), dj blackpower (MIKE), Nick Hakim, Laron, and more. There are also guest features from fellow New Yorkers Your Old Droog, duendita, and Salimata.
