Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro has hinted that Paul Pogba could leave the club ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.

Pogba joined Monaco last June, signing a two-year deal following the end of his suspension for doping.

The Frenchman missed a large chunk of the 2025-26 campaign due to issues with his fitness.

He managed just six appearances, all of which came in Ligue 1 and amounted to just 115 minutes, while he did not feature in the Champions League, being left out of their squad for the knockout stages.

Scuro admitted earlier this year that the signing of Pogba had not met his expectations, and when asked if the 33-year-old was likely to leave, he told Get French Football News: “Yes, of course. Maybe he’ll leave, maybe he’ll stay.

“It’s a very complicated issue. We have a lot of respect for him as a person first and foremost.

“When he arrived here, he was very positive; he helped the young players. But the truth is also that the project [with him] didn’t work well last season. When we started it, our expectations were very different.”

Monaco recently brought in Filipe Luis as their new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Monaco are also said to need to reduce their wage bill after it was capped, and Pogba could be one of those that leaves to ease those worries.

Scuro acknowledged that the final decision will come down to Luis, who described Pogba as a “special player” and said he plans to have conversations with him in the coming days.

“I think now we need to be fair with him: look at his preparation each week, see how he’s progressed physically and technically,” Scuro added.

“And then it will be the coach’s decision whether Filipe Luis will give him playing time or not. We have the summer to see what Paul’s level will be.”
