CBS Sports grades Falcons’ trade with Chiefs

June 12, 2026, 9:06 a.m. ET

For the second time this year, the Atlanta Falcons have added some Kansas City Chiefs chiefs vibes to their roster along the offensive line. Back in April, they signed ex-Chiefs right tackle Jawaan Taylor to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. Yesterday, they swapped Day 3 picks with the Chiefs for their backup left tackle Wanya Morris.

The details are that Atlanta is sending a 2027 sixth-round pick to Kansas City, while getting Morris and a seventh-round draft pick in 2027 back. That boils down to adding young depth at a premium position for just a one-round drop at the back end of the draft.

At least on the surface, that sounds like a solid deal to us. ESPN gave the Falcons a B+ grade for the trade, but not everyone is a fan of the deal. Over at CBS Sports, Garrett Podell only gave Atlanta a C-.

“It’s curious to see the Falcons part with any draft capital to recreate the Chiefs’ right tackle depth chart, especially since Patrick Mahomes was sacked a career-high 2.4 times per game in 2025 and completed a career-low 41.9% of his passes when pressured. If Atlanta’s pro scouts see Morris as a player they can reshape into a potential starter down the road given he is only 25 years old, perhaps it’s worth moving down a round in the 2027 NFL Draft. We’ll see.”

From where we’re sitting this seems like a harsh take and an unfair grade. Morris is a third-round draft pick who has only started 16 of his 43 games at the NFL level. However, he’s still only 25 years old and has plenty of time to grow into his game.

If it doesn’t work out and Morris bombs when he’s on the field in 2026, the Falcons have an immediate out as he’s playing out the final year of his rookie contract.

If it does work and they bring him back, then Atlanta may be landing a future long-term starter at right tackle, or a potential successor to Jake Matthews at left tackle – where Morris has most of his experience. In other words, it’s very unlikely that this deal will age poorly for the Falcons.

That has to be worth a solid B, at least.
