Donald Trump considera que é necessário alterar a sigla da NFL (National Football League), por considerar que o que é praticado não se trata de «futebol».

O presidente dos Estados Unidos destaca um «conflito» entre os conceitos, sendo que os americanos designam o futebol que é praticado na maior parte do mundo como «soccer».

«Quando olhamos para o que está a acontecer com o futebol nos Estados Unidos, nunca lhe chamamos “football” porque há um conflito com outra coisa chamada futebol. Agora, quando pensamos nisso, será que se devia chamar assim? Isto é futebol (Mundial 2026), não há dúvidas quanto a isso. Temos de arranjar um nome diferente para aquilo (NFL)», afirma.

Estas declarações surgem poucos meses após um episódio que envolveu ambas as partes, quando Trump classificou o half-time show do Super Bowl como «terrível» e uma «afronta ao povo norte-americano». Nessa noite, o intervalo trouxe atuações de Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin e Lady Gaga.
