The Anambra State chapter of the City Boys Movement, a youth-driven group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, organised a menstrual hygiene sensitisation programme for female students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, distributing hundreds of sanitary pads to students during the event.
The exercise took place at the main auditorium of the Academic Staff Union of Universities on the UNIZIK campus on Friday, as part of activities marking the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Speaking at the event, the group’s Anambra State Women Leader, Adaora Soludo who also serves as the founder of the Gloria Foundation said the initiative was designed to empower young women, promote menstrual health awareness, tackle period poverty, and support girls’ continued education.
She noted that many female students still struggle with limited access to sanitary materials, accurate information, and adequate support, with some missing classes entirely due to menstrual-related challenges.
Soludo stressed that menstruation is a natural aspect of womanhood and should never be a source of shame or embarrassment.
She encouraged the students to prioritise personal hygiene, maintain proper cleanliness, eat well, stay hydrated, and seek medical attention whenever necessary.
She also reminded them that menstrual hygiene goes beyond the use of sanitary products it encompasses self-care, confidence, and proper health education.
Beyond the health-focused message, Soludo urged eligible students to register to vote and actively participate in the democratic process, emphasising that young people have a vital role to play in shaping the future of the country.
She encouraged them not to remain on the sidelines while decisions about their future are made by others.
The event was well attended by university staff, management, lecturers, students, and other invited dignitaries.
