Nigeria will take on Portugal in an international friendly at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles head into their final game of the June international window on the back of a 2-2 draw against Poland last week, where they conceded a late equalizer that denied them victory. They will not be in action again until September, following their failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, this clash will be Portugal’s final fixture before travelling to the United States for the World Cup. The 2016 European champions will go up against DR Congo, who qualified through the CAF play-offs at Nigeria’s expense, in their group opener on June 17.

Soccer What time is the match being played?

The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:45pm West African Time (WAT) on Wednesday, June 10.

Soccer What to expect from the Portugal vs Nigeria clash

Portugal and Nigeria will meet for only the second time in senior international football when both teams take to the Estádio Municipal de Leiria.

Their only previous encounter came in November 2022 ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which Nigeria also failed to qualify for. Portugal recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice, while Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário also found the net.

The Super Eagles have received a boost ahead of the fixture with the return of Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze, following their absence in the draw against Poland. However, Eric Chelle will be unable to count on Igoh Ogbu, after the Slavia Prague defender withdrew from the squad with a serious injury.

Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman remain unavailable after also missing the Poland game, as Nigeria will be hoping for a much-improved performance compared to their heavy defeat in this clash four years ago.

The three-time African champions will then turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September with Group L fixtures against Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and co-hosts Tanzania for a place at the tournament.
