FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD gymnast Aliana “Ali” Coles is turning heads in the United States after a championship season that has marked her as one of the sport’s most promising young talents.
The Buckeye Gymnastics standout, who has Trinidadian roots through her mother, has now closed out a brilliant Level Nine campaign and is already preparing for the next chapter of her development as she moves into Level Ten training.
For Coles, the progress has come in leaps, bounds and perfectly timed landings.
Across a season packed with high-pressure meets, the young gymnast delivered the kind of consistency and composure usually associated with far more experienced athletes. She made her mark at the Brestyan Invitational before carrying that form into the Kalahari Luau Invitational, where she claimed the All-Around Championship and emerged as the Top Level Nine scorer.
That performance featured a first-place finish on the floor exercise, while she also collected second-place results on the vault, bars and beam, underlining her all-around quality.
Coles continued her march at the Ohio State Championships, where she captured the state vault title and added a second-place finish in the all-around.
From there, she carried her momentum into the Region Five Championships, widely regarded as one of the toughest regions in the United States, and came away as regional champion on both vault and uneven bars.
Her season then reached a new height at the Eastern National Championships in Savannah, Georgia, where Coles announced herself on the national stage with a silver medal on balance beam.
She also finished fifth on floor and fifth in the all-around, a strong showing that confirmed her as a gymnast capable of delivering under the brightest lights.
Now, with her Level Nine journey complete, Coles is setting her sights on Level Ten, where the demands are even greater and the spotlight even brighter.
Training with an elite coaching staff at Buckeye Gymnastics, USA, she is already working on more complex skills, including the advanced triple wolf turn, as she continues to sharpen her routines for the next stage of her career.
Away from the gym, Coles is also proving her discipline in the classroom, where she is an honour roll student. It is another sign that her rise is being built on more than talent alone.
“Standing on the national podium with a silver medal on beam was an incredible milestone, but it is just the beginning,” Coles said. “My gymnastics is built on the grit and world-class coaching I have here in Ohio. I am so excited to push myself to the limit as a Level Ten gymnast, continue training relentlessly in preparation for college and the international stage.”
With her blend of power, artistry and technical precision, Coles is already being watched as a future contender for the US collegiate pathway and, potentially, the international arena.
